COLLEGE STATION — The Texas Agricultural Extension Service has named Mike McKinney as director of the Texas 4-H Center at Brownwood.
McKinney has been serving as interim director for the past eight months. He also has been serving as program director at the center since 1987. McKinney joined the Extension Service in 1978 and served in Travis and Brazos counties before being appointed to the staff at the 4-H Center.
“Mike McKinney has done an outstanding job as program director and interim director at the Texas 4-H Center, and I believe he will provide outstanding leadership as center director,” said Dr. Zerle L. Carpenter, Extension Service director.
“I believe the Texas 4-H Center will grow and prosper under McKinney’s leadership,” Carpenter said. “Mike possesses the competence, energy and enthusiasm needed to guide and direct the overall operations at the center so that it provides an outstanding environment for personal and professional development activities for both youth and adults.”
A native of George West, McKinney holds B.S. and M.S. degrees in agricultural education from Texas A&M University. He has received awards from the Texas 4-H Volunteer Leaders’ Association, Texas Association of Extension 4-H Agents, National Association of Extension 4-H Agents, Texas Agricultural Extension Service Specialists Association and Texas County Agricultural Agents Association.
The Texas 4-H Center on Lake Brownwood opened its doors in 1975 as a multi-purpose conference and camp facility operated by the Texas 4-H Foundation. Several thousand youth and adults participate in camps and training programs at the center each year. Extension Service faculty and staff as well as other groups and organizations use the center on a regular basis for training and professional development.
