LUBBOCK–A veteran agronomist with the Texas Agricultural Extension Service joined the agency’s faculty here Monday as cotton specialist for the South Plains region
Dr. Randal K. “Randy” Boman is replacing Dr. Kater Hake. Boman will provide leadership for educational programs and assist county extension agents in working with area cotton producers and all elements of the region’s cotton industry.
A native of Frederick, Okla., Boman holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees in agronomy and a doctorate in soil science, all from Oklahoma State University.
Boman, 39, comes to Lubbock from the Samuel Roberts Noble Foundation in Ardmore, Okla., where he served as soil fertility and crop specialist. Prior to that he served as Extension Service agronomist based at Vernon.
At Vernon he provided agronomic leadership for county extension agents in 25 North Central Texas counties and conducted interdisciplinary cotton and wheat research and demonstration projects funded by Cotton Inc. and the Texas Wheat Producers Board.
He also has served as assistant superintendent and superintendent of OSU’s three Southwest Agronomy Research Stations, headquartered at Altus, Okla.
He is a member of the American Society of Agronomy and the Soil Science Society of America. He has completed state and national requirements for designation as a certified crop adviser with the American Society of Agronomy.
Boman and his wife, Dayna, have three children.
