EL PASO– Looking for information on how to control cockroaches in your home? Or maybe you’d like to know what cholera is and how to prevent it. How about some information on how to work with children more effectively, or help your child succeed in school?
Now you can get answers to these questions from a collection of publications produced by the Una Vida Mejor (A Better Life) project of the Texas Agricultural Extension Service by visiting any El Paso city library.
The publications, part of an overall state effort funded by a grant from the W.K. Kellogg Foundation, offer El Paso residents valuable information on these topics: Child Development; Financial Management, Entomology, Health, Waste Management, Water Quality/Safety, and Success In School.
Publications of interest include: Facts About Raising Children; Ways To Help Children Learn; Control of Fire Ants, Cockroaches, Fleas and Ticks; Cholera Today; Preventing Diarrhea; Septic Tank Maintenance; Water Quality and Conservation. Information is also available on helping children achieve success in school, which covers questions related to several grade levels and issues.
All publications are available in English and Spanish, can be photocopied and should be requested at the reference desk of any one of the 10 branch libraries. Additional sets are also available at the county library in Fabens and at libraries in outlying areas such as the Valley Community library in Anthony, N.M., which serves El Paso, Canutillo and Anthony residents. In addition, sets are being placed in El Paso Community College libraries.
Publications are also available at the Montana Vista Community Center and the Sparks Community Center.
The publications are part of an extended outreach effort of the UVM project, which was undertaken in El Paso from June 1994 to last May. The effort looks to further the commitment of the Extension Service to the Hispanic community.
