COLLEGE STATION — Dr. Willie F. Krueger has been named as the first holder of the Elaine and Emanuel Glockzin Jr. professorship in poultry science at Texas A&M University.
The Glockzins’ gift in 1997 endowed a professorship at Texas A&M to recognize a professor who has had the responsibility for the collegiate poultry judging activities. Krueger uniquely meets this criteria — his record as coach of the poultry judging teams includes teams that have won 11 national championships, seven second, one third, and two fourth places during the last 14 years.
Krueger began his career with Texas A&M in 1953 as assistant professor and rose through the professorial ranks to become professor and head of the poultry science department in 1972. In 1982, he returned to teaching and coaching the poultry judging teams full- time.
His contributions to the teaching program and the poultry industry include various awards and recognitions such as the Texas Poultry Federation’s, “Golden Feather Award,” for service to the Texas poultry industry; the Poultry Science Association Purina Teaching Award in 1989; and the Association of Former Student’s Distinguished Teaching Award in 1991. In 1994, the Poultry Science Association inducted him as a Poultry Science Fellow.
As chair holder, Krueger will continue his work with the poultry science collegiate judging teams as well as teach the undergraduate poultry course for students wishing to secure their teaching certificates in agricultural sciences.
