GOLDTHWAITE — Wildlife managers and enthusiasts are encouraged to attend a seven-county “Rangelands Recreational Resources Symposium” Sept. 1 in the Mills County Civic Center. Registration begins at 8:30 a.m. The program starts at 9 a.m.
Sponsors are the Texas Agricultural Extension Service program area committees in Mills, San Saba, McCulloch, Brown, Lampasas, Burnet, and Llano counties along with the Mills County Trophy Wildlife Management Association.
Organizers have scheduled a slate of guest speakers from throughout the state to discuss a diversity of wildlife management topics including: rangeland resource requirements for personal use and profit, principles of white-tailed deer management, bobwhite quail management practices, non-traditional recreational opportunities, farm pond production and management, hunting leases and liabilities for landowners, and qualifications of agricultural lands for wildlife management.
Guest speakers include Dr. Dale Rollins, Extension wildlife specialist, San Angelo; Dr. Donny Steinbach, state program leader- Extension wildlife and fisheries sciences, College Station; Forrest Armke, wildlife manager, Brady; Henry Welge, wildlife manager, Doss; Ken Cearley, associate wildlife specialist, San Angelo; Tamara Trail, Extension associate-conservation, San Angelo; Judon Fambrough, senior lecturer and attorney, Texas Real Estate Center, College Station; and Mike Krueger, biologist, Texas Parks and Wildlife Department, Lampasas.
Persons interested in attending the symposium are asked to pre- register by calling the Mills County Extension Office at (915) 648- 2650 by Aug. 28 so an accurate lunch count can be made. Registration is $10 per person at the door. The fee includes the lunch.
