COLLEGE STATION — “Principles, Policies and Protection,” will be the theme of the 10th annual Plant Protection conference here Dec. 8-9 at the Pebble Creek Country Club, east of U.S. Highway 6 on Greens Prairie Road.
A general session will open the conference with discussions on the impacts of plant protection on crop marketing, the potential and limitations for precision agriculture, major issues affecting agriculture today and the role of Integrated Pest Management in technology transfer to growers.
The Clean Water Act will be the topic for a special session and will include a talk on best management practices for reducing herbicide runoff. Another special session, on the Food Quality Protection Act, focus on the act from the beginning, how it affects Texans and Texas legislation that could influence decisions.
Five commodity sessions will be held concurrently. They include: corn, sorghum and small grains; cotton and peanuts; pasture and range; horticulture and turf; and rice and soybeans.
Continuing education units will be given for most sessions for pesticide re-certification and/or certified crop advisors, depending on the number of conference sessions attended.
