COLLEGE STATION — Claud and Betty Baumbach of Austin have given a $22,000 endowed scholarship with matching funds to the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences at Texas A&M University.
The Baumbachs are giving the scholarship to Texas A&M in memory of their son, Charles, who graduated in 1995 with a bachelor’s degree in animal science. Charles passed away in September of 1997.
Texas A&M is one of four recipients given scholarship funds. The others are Pflugerville High School, Flatonia High School and New Sweden Lutheran Church.
Claud Baumbach, who is general manager of Leif Johnson Ford in Austin, said he and his wife have always promoted youth activities.
“I have participated in the Austin-Travis County Livestock Show for 15 years,” Baumbach said, noting that the purpose of the show is to raise funds to award scholarships to students who are interested in agriculture.
“We awarded over $200,000 in scholarships this year,” Baumbach said.
Claud is active in the Pflugerville Booster Club, which raises funds to help children with their livestock show projects.
Baumbach said giving these scholarships on his son’s behalf is a way for Charles’ memory to live forever.
