COLLEGE STATION Jeffrey W. Savell, professor in the department of animal science at Texas A&M University, was named president-elect of the American Meat Science Association (AMSA) recently during the 53rd Annual Reciprocal Meat Conference at Ohio State University in Columbus.
Savell, also the E.M. “Manny” Rosenthal chair holder in the animal science department, will serve a three-year term as an AMSA executive committee and board member. Savell has received two awards from AMSA the Distinguished Research Award in 1991 and the Distinguished Teaching Award in 1997. Savell served on its board of directors from 1992 to 1994. He has served or chaired numerous AMSA committees for the past two decades.
The American Meat Science Association is a professional society that was formally incorporated in 1964. Its unique role is to provide a forum for all interests commercial, academic, government, and consumer to come together in a scientifically-based atmosphere.
