COLLEGE STATION Dr. Creighton Miller, Texas A&M University professor of horticulture and genetics, received the prestigious L.M. Ware Distinguished Teacher Award from the Southern Region, American Society for Horticultural Science at its recent annual meeting in Mobile, Ala.
“I was honored to receive this award named for the renowned former Auburn horticulturist, teacher and author,” Miller said.
The Ware Award is presented to outstanding teachers who have demonstrated superior devotion to student development, especially in horticulture. It was first presented in 1958. Other Texas A&M recipients have been G.W. Adriance in 1960, Fred R. Brison in 1962, J. Benton Storey in 1979, Joseph R. Novak in 1987, David W. Reed in 1989, and Fred Davies Jr. in 1998.
Miller has been involved in plant breeding research and teaching at Texas A&M since 1975. He is a past president of both the ASHS Southern Region and the Potato Association of America, and is a Fellow of ASHS.
