State Sen. Todd Staples has been inducted into the Tyrus R. Timm Honor Registry of Former Students in Agricultural Economics at Texas A&M University.
“While it is an honor to accept this award, the real attention should go to the faculty and administration who strive daily to provide a quality program,” Staples said. “I use my agriculture economics background in all aspects of my life. Lessons learned at A&M, both in and out of the classroom, have been vital to my own professional development in agribusiness. The department also influences public policy on the statewide level in natural resources and assists our communities with economic development initiatives.”
His career in public service began in 1989 serving on the Palestine City Council and as director of the East Texas Council of Governments. He also served as mayor pro tem of Palestine.
Before entering public service, Staples was an entrepreneur. He continues to manage his real estate appraisal and brokerage firm, Pioneer Properties.
Staples is recognized as a leader in his profession. In 1989, he was elected president of the Palestine Board of Realtors. He was twice honored as Palestine Realtor of the year. He also is an active member of the Texas Association of Realtors, which includes having served as Region 5 vice president.
