COLLEGE STATION Dr. Jeff Savell has won the Signal Service Award from the American Meat Science Association. This annual award is given in recognition of service and lasting contributions to the meat industry and the association.
Savell is a professor of meat science and E.M. “Manny” Rosenthal chair holder with the department of animal science at Texas A&M University. He teaches several courses at Texas A&M, including an introductory meat science class.
Savell has taught more than 8,700 students at the university since 1982. He has served as chair or co-chair to more than 60 master’s degree and 28 doctoral students.
He also served on the executive board of the American Meat Science Association from 1992 until 1994, and as president from 2001-2002. Previous awards from the association include the Distinguished Teaching and Distinguished Research awards.
