JUNCTION – The Texas AgriLife Extension Service will conduct the multi-county Hill Country Wildlife Management Field Day from 8:30 a.m. – 3 p.m. April 15 at the Coke Stevenson Center in Junction on U.S. Highway 83 N. about half a mile north of I-10.
Three Texas Department of Agriculture continuing education units will be available (one integrated pest management and two general).
The AgriLife Extension offices and respective wildlife committees in Kimble, Mason, Gillespie, Menard, McCulloch and Llano counties are conducting the field day.
“Judon Fambrough with the Real Estate Institute at College Station will be our featured speaker,” said Russell Kott, AgriLife Extension agent in Kimble County. “He’ll be speaking on recreational land use liability, transmission line easements and eminent domain proceedings. If a Hill Country landowner has not been faced with one of these issues, the chances are real strong that he or she will at some point in the near future.”
The morning program will include a tour to the South Llano River State Park for three concurrent sessions. The sessions are:
– Alternative Wildlife Enterprises: birding and how to set up and maintain a successful birding enterprise, and the potential income such an enterprise could be expected to generate.
– Plant Identification: how to identify beneficial wildlife plants and their importance to various wildlife species. – Prescribed Burning: how fire can enhance the wildlife enterprise and how to go about it.
Following the concurrent sessions, the program will reconvene at the Coke Stevenson Center for Fambrough’s remarks and lunch.
Individual pre-registration is $25 by April 8. The fee includes the noon meal and educational materials.
