COLLEGE STATION – Dr. J. Chris Stiegler has joined Texas AgriLife Research and the department of soil and crop sciences at Texas A&M University as an assistant professor of turfgrass science and ecology.
“The Texas A&M University System turfgrass faculty are very pleased to have Dr. Chris Stiegler join our program,” said Dr. David Chalmers, Texas AgriLife Extension Service state turfgrass specialist and leader of the turfgrass program at Texas A&M University. “His training and experience will complement ongoing efforts in research, undergraduate and graduate education, and serving the Texas turfgrass industry.”
Stiegler’s program will focus on management systems to address irrigation water quantity and quality issues, along with research in heat and drought stress physiology, nitrogen fertility and turfgrass ecology in the urban landscape.
In addition to research, Stiegler will be teaching a spring course on turfgrass ecology and physiology. The class will have an applied focus toward aspiring turfgrass managers.
Stiegler earned his doctorate from the University of Arkansas and his master’s and bachelor’s degrees from Oklahoma State University.
