COMANCHE — Whit Weems, Texas AgriLife Extension Service agent in Comanche County, has received the agency’s Superior Service award.
Weems won the award for a wide variety of programming, according to award documentation, but his biggest impact was on the county’s dairy industry.
In Commanche County, the 19 largest milk producers averaged more than $75 million per year in cash receipts for milk and dairy cattle since 2007. The award nominators noted that Weems “has been responsible for securing local funds to help provide 10 manure management, four crop production and nine emerging issues programs since 2007.”
“Whit not only shares his information,” wrote Frank Volleman, Comanche County dairy producer. “He also gives to the public on a personal level…. He does not just sit in his office. He is an active part of this community who works to help anyone who asks.”
Weems said he started his career with AgriLife Extension eight years ago as a 4-H and Youth development agent in Falls County. After two years there, he moved to Hamilton County as an agriculture and natural resources agent. He’s been the agriculture agent in Comanche County for the last four years.
