COLLEGE STATION – The American Association of Veterinary Laboratory Diagnosticians recently elected Dr. Catherine Barr as its new vice president.
Barr is the quality assurance and safety manager at the Texas Veterinary Medical Diagnostic Laboratory in College Station.
Barr was named during the association’s 2011 annual meeting in Buffalo, N.Y. She will progress through the officer ranks of the organization over the next three years, eventually becoming president.
“There is no greater honor than to be selected for a leadership position by your peers,” said Dr. Tammy Beckham, the diagnostic lab’s director. “We congratulate Dr. Barr on her achievements and wish her well during her tenure.”
Barr joined TVMDL’s College Station lab in 1991 and completed her doctorate in toxicology in 1996 and also has served as a veterinary toxicologist. She is a diplomate of the American Board of Toxicology.
Active in diagnostician’s association since 1995, Barr has served on its U.S. Animal Health Association Committee on the Environment and Toxicology, including terms as chair and co-chair. She also has served on the association’s program committee for toxicology, including as a session moderator; approved methods committee; and laboratory safety and waste disposal committee, including a term as co-chair.
She is an accreditation auditor, having conducted three audits for the association and one for the National Animal Health Laboratory Network and is an ad hoc reviewer for the Journal of Veterinary Diagnostic Investigation.
