SAN ANTONIO – With spring on the horizon, the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service horticulturist for Bexar County has lined up some March gardening programs to help get area homeowners and backyard gardeners ready.
“We wanted to help people get ready for spring by having some seminars focusing on vegetable gardening and lawn care,” said David Rodriguez, AgriLife Extension county agent for horticulture. “So we put together some programs on vegetable garden plant selection and planting, as well as on proper lawn care and maintenance.”
He said the programs will be at the following times and locations:
–March 9 from 10:30 a.m. – noon, Earth-Kind Educational Seminar: “Growing a Spring Vegetable Garden,” Fanick’s Garden Center,1025 Holmgreen Drive, San Antonio. No-cost seminar on vegetable garden selection and planting, but donations to the Children’s Vegetable Garden Program will be accepted. Go to http://www.fanicknursery.com/ for information.
— March 16 from 10:30 a.m. noon, Earth-Kind Educational Seminar: Lawn Basics 101, Schulz Nursery, 3700 Broadway, San Antonio. No-cost seminar on proper lawn nutrition and care, including turfgrass selection, fertilizing and cutting height.
— March 17 from 2-3:30 p.m., Earth-Kind Educational Seminar: Lawn Basics 101, Schulz Nursery, 100 West Huebinger, Marion. No cost seminar on proper lawn nutrition and care, including turfgrass selection, fertilizing and cutting height.
— March 26 from 6:30-8:30 p.m., Backyard Gardening Series: “Having a Successful Spring Vegetable Garden.” There is a registration fee of $10 for this program on the do’s and don’ts of ongoing vegetable garden care.
