AUSTIN — The Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service office in Travis County is launching the Step Up & Scale Down program, an innovative 12-week weight management program, said Sonia Coyle, AgriLife Extension family and consumer sciences agent, Travis County.
“The program is designed to guide participants toward a healthy weight through nutrition tips, exercise resources, a personalized weight-loss planner and more,” Coyle said. “Step Up and Scale Down Down is a research-based program that has proven success in weight management and building healthy lifestyle habits.”
She said the program was developed in conjunction with the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s 2010 nutritional guidelines and is intended to help people choose a healthful individual eating plan.
The 12-week series will be held at the AgriLife Extension office at 1600 B-Smith Road in Austin. Classes will be held from 6:30-7:30 p.m., beginning June 2 and continuing for 12 consecutive Mondays. Classes will also be offered from 10-11 a.m. on the same consecutive Mondays.
Sessions include: Scale Down by Setting Goals; Step Up to a Healthy Plate; Scale Down by Label Reading; Step Up to Breakfast and Menu Planning; Scale Down with Moves to Lose; Step Up Your Hydration; Scale Down by Finding Your Motivational Mojo; Step Up to Healthy Snacking; Scale Down with a Colorful Plate; Step Up to Successful Socializing; Scale Down by Knowing Your Numbers; and Step Up and Celebrate.
“With summer around the corner, there is no better time to jump-start your way to a healthier lifestyle,” Coyle said.
Cost for the program is $60 and includes all course materials. However, Coyle said there will be an additional incentive of a $30 refund for those who complete at least 10 out of 12 classes and a refund of $20 for those who achieve their weight-loss goal during the program.
Preregistration is available until May 28 by contacting the AgriLife Extension office at 512-854-9605 or by emailing Coyle at email@example.com.
