SAN ANTONIO – The Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service will hold three Landowners’ Planning and Management Workshops in August, September and October to address issues of importance to rural and semi-rural landholders in and around Bexar County.
“The workshops will address wildlife valuation and management, maintaining wildlife habitat and the importance of financial and estate management,” said Roy Flora, AgriLife Extension agent for agriculture and natural resources, Bexar County, one of the workshop coordinators.

The programs will be from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at the AgriLife Extension office in Suite 208 of the Conroy Square office complex, 3355 Cherry Ridge Drive, San Antonio. Each workshop offers two Texas Department of Agriculture continuing education units.
The fee is $15 per workshop, payable in cash or by personal check at the door.
The first workshop program, “Introduction to Wildlife Management and Valuation,” will be Aug. 28 and presented by David Alexander, Plateau Land and Wildlife Management.
“Landowners with a 1-d-1 agricultural valuation can change from a traditional qualifying agricultural practice to wildlife management by implementing and completing a minimum number of wildlife management practices,” Flora said. “Wildlife management is an additional qualifying agricultural practice landowners may choose as a means to maintain the agricultural valuation on their land.”
Flora said the Aug. 28 program will address what constitutes a wildlife management agricultural valuation and the steps necessary to qualify. This program offers two continuing education units in the general category.

“The use of rainwater collection as a water source for wildlife is one of the components that can be used to help fulfill the wildlife habitat management plan,” said Troy Luepke, program coordinator for water and natural resources, Bexar County, who helped set up the workshop.
The two additional program dates, topics and presenters will be:
— Sept. 25, “Wildlife Habitat Management,” Jessica Alderson, Texas Parks and Wildlife Department. This workshop offers two continuing education units in the general category.
— Oct. 23, “Financial and Estate/Land Trusts and Management,” Nicholas Valenti, certified financial planner, Platinum Wealth Solutions. This workshop offers two continuing education units in laws and regulations.
