BRECKENRIDGE – Sumer Burns began her new job as the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service family and consumer science agent for Stephens County on Oct. 19.

Burns will be completing the agency’s First Step training program in Palo Pinto County for her first month of employment, said Miles Dabovich, AgriLife Extension district administrator in Vernon.
“AgriLife and Stephens County are very pleased to have Sumer come on board,” Dabovich said. “Her Stephens County roots, 4-H background, educational background and teaching experience will be a tremendous asset in building the Stephens County program.”
Burns attended schools at Breckenridge, graduated from Texas Tech University in Lubbock and has spent the past four years teaching at New Deal Elementary.
“Being a native of Stephens County will help me understand the needs of our community,” she said. “And being an educator for four years has prepared me for many things. But at the end of the day, the most important of all is building mutual trust and respect, as I did with my students, and making an impact on lives by showing the people I care and I know they can make a difference in the world.”
Burns said she participated in 4-H showing pigs and steers, and it was those “best days of my life” that prepared her for this position.
“I want others to be able to have the memories I have from participating in 4-H, including having fun learning responsibilities, making new friends and becoming leaders,” she said.
