The 12-week program consists of weekly lessons, weigh-ins and challenges to stay on course, as well as Dinner Tonight! healthy recipes, and tips and exercise resources, said Chelsea Stevens, AgriLife Extension agent for family and consumer sciences for Williamson County.

The lessons will all be taught from noon to 1 p.m. at the AgriLife Extension office, 3151 S.E. Inner Loop, Suite A, in Georgetown, for 12 consecutive Fridays beginning Aug. 12.

“The program is designed to guide participants toward a healthy weight through nutrition and exercise tips, a personalized weight-loss planner and other resources,” Stevens said. “It’s a research-based program that has shown success in weight management and building healthy lifestyle habits.”

She said the program was developed in conjunction with the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s 2010 nutritional guidelines and is intended to help people choose a healthful individual eating plan.

The 12 program lessons are: Scale Down by Setting Goals; Step Up to a Healthy Plate; Scale Down by Label Reading; Step Up to Breakfast and Menu Planning; Scale Down with Moves to Lose; Step Up Your Hydration; Scale Down by Finding your Motivational Mojo; Step Up to Healthy Snacking; Scale Down with a Colorful Plate; Step Up to Successful Socializing; Scale Down by Knowing Your Numbers; and Step Up and Celebrate.

Program cost is $40 and individuals can register at http://williamson.agrilife.org/program-registration/.

Stevens said prizes will be given during the program. Prizes include a Fitbit, hand weights, exercise bands, ankle weights and a Yeti water bottle.
