SAN ANTONIO – The Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service in Bexar County will be presenting three educational programs on Zika and mosquito reduction at its office in Suite 208 of the Conroy Square office complex, 3355 Cherry Ridge Drive in San Antonio.
The programs are free and open to the public. Two will be held Aug. 25 — the first from 10-11:30 a.m. and the second from 2-3:30 p.m. The third program will be held from 6-7:30 p.m. Aug. 30.

“With locally transmitted cases in Florida, Zika has been in the news and on people’s minds a lot lately,” said Molly Keck, AgriLife Extension entomologist and integrated pest management specialist, Bexar County. “In Texas, we are bracing ourselves for cases spread from our local mosquitoes. And with the recent rains, we can expect the mosquito populations to spike in the next couple of weeks.”
Keck said Zika is spread by species of Aedes mosquitoes that are found throughout Texas and live and breed in backyards, so individuals can play a large role in reducing their numbers and the likelihood of contracting Zika.
“The program will show what people need to know about Zika and mosquito management from an entomologist’s perspective,” she said.
