DALLAS — The Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service will present two programs in its Gardening By the Yard fall gardening series this September in Dallas.
The programs will be from 9 a.m.-noon at Raincatcher’s Garden, Midway Hills Christian Church, 11001 Midway Road. Registration will begin at 8:30 a.m.
The programs cost $15 each.
The first program, Establishing a Backyard Vineyard, will be Sept. 3 and feature Michael Cook, AgriLife Extension viticulture specialist for North Texas based in Denton.
The program will address when to plant which grape varieties best suited for the area, as well as topics such as soil and weather conditions.
“We will focus on those grape varieties that do best in North Texas as well as the challenges and rewards of wine grape growing primarily from the perspective of the hobbyist who’s interested in establishing a small backyard vineyard,” Cook said.
For more information on this program, contact Cook at 940-349-2896 or [email protected].
The second program, Healthy Home Lawns, will be Sept. 17 and feature Stephen Hudkins, AgriLife Extension county agent for horticulture, Dallas County.
The program will address fall lawn maintenance, including fertilization and aeration, as well as weed, insect and disease control. It will also address lawn maintenance during the winter and the pros and cons of over-seeding.
Attendees will also have the opportunity to see five turf grass types growing in demonstration plots, as well as view the drip irrigation system installed under each plot.
