OVERTON – Twana Wilson has been named the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service family and consumer sciences agent for Sabine County, according to Shelia Lewis, District 5 administrator in Overton.
Wilson, who grew up in Jasper, said she is excited to be returning home to help organizations and individuals enhance the quality of life in the community and the southeastern region of Texas. Her goals for the position include making more people aware of available AgriLife Extension resources, educating them about healthier living and growing outreach programs within the area.
“I love educating people about health,” she said. “This is a position where I can educate the community and make it fun for everyone.”
As a new AgriLife Extension agent, Wilson will participate in the 30-day First Step for Success orientation program in multiple counties prior to beginning her career in Sabine County.
“I feel certain Twana will do an excellent job because of her enthusiasm for providing quality, educational programs and working with the public,” Lewis said.
Wilson earned a bachelor of general studies specializing in social work and a master of science in health promotion from Lamar University in Beaumont. She also is a nationally certified health education specialist.
She was recently employed as a health care field interviewer contractor with the Texas Department of Health and Human Services and as an adjunct instructor with the department of health and kinesiology at Lamar University.
“I am so honored to be working within the community to help empower families and strengthen access to resources while improving their quality of life,” Wilson said.
