COLLEGE STATION – A Small Ruminant Management workshop is scheduled from 8:30 a.m.-3 p.m. Jan. 14 at the G. Rollie White Visitors Center, 7707 Farm-to-Market Road 60 in College Station.
The workshop will feature numerous presentations by industry specialists, according to organizers. Preregistration is $45 by Jan. 4 and $55 after, and includes a lunch featuring lamb and goat.
Topics include small ruminant health, impacts of the veterinary feed directive, genetic selection for optimal production, raising an effective livestock guardian dog, using Akbash dogs with livestock, identifying what lamb and goat consumers want, budget development, utilizing social media for marketing, and fencing options for small ruminants.
A hands-on hoof trimming demonstration is also scheduled. There will be a raffle after the seminar with the grand prize winner awarded a $200 Visa gift card.
The workshop is presented by the Brazos Valley Small Ruminant Committee.
