GRAND PRAIRIE – Commercial and municipal arborists who want to learn more about the evolution of tree care should attend the 2017 North Central Texas Urban Forestry Conference scheduled for Feb. 24 in Grand Prairie.
The conference, which will highlight aspects of urban forestry and tree care, is a coordinated collaborative effort among the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service, Texas A&M Forest Service, Trinity Blacklands Urban Forestry Council, Cross Timbers Urban Forestry Council and the city of Grand Prairie.
The conference will be at The Summit, 2975 Esplanade. Registration begins at 8 a.m. with the program from 8:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m.

– Elden LeBrun, research technician, Bartlett Tree Experts in Charlotte, North Carolina – The Evolution of Pruning Practices.
– Guy LeBlanc, certified arborist, Arbor Vitae Tree Care in Austin – The Evolution of Tree Climbing.
– Dr. Dave Appel, plant pathologist, AgriLife Extension, College Station – The Evolution of Insect/Disease Management.
– Darrell Downey, of Engineered Watering Solutions, Jasper, Georgia – The Evolution of Irrigation.
– Matt Klippstein, commercial sales manager, Husqvarna in Fort Worth – The Evolution of Saws.
– John Giedraitis, executive director, International Society of Arboriculture Texas, College Station – The Evolution of Urban Forestry.
Participants can earn continuing education units for certifications with the International Society of Arboriculture, Texas Nursery and Landscape Association, and the Society of American Foresters as well as to maintain a Texas Department of Agriculture pesticide applicator license.
The Cross Timbers Urban Forestry Council will present Bronze Leaf awards during lunch.
