PERRYTON – The Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service is hosting the 19th annual Wheatheart Wheat Conference Aug. 10 at the Ochiltree County Expo Center, 402 Expo Drive, Perryton.
The event is jointly hosted by the AgriLife Extension offices in Hansford, Hemphill, Hutchinson, Lipscomb, Roberts and Ochiltree counties.
Registration with coffee and doughnuts begins at 8:30 a.m., and the program will run from 9 a.m.-12:45 p.m. Registration is $10 at the door, and includes lunch and a ticket for a drawing for a $100 gift card sponsored by Texas Wheat Producers.
Three Texas Department of Agriculture continuing education units – two general and one integrated pest management – will be offered to pesticide applicators.
“Those attending the event will hear educational topics related to wheat production management and marketing,” said Scott Strawn, AgriLife Extension agriculture and natural resources agent for Ochiltree County.
The topics and speakers include:
– Market Outlook and Wheat Marketing Plan, Dr. Mark Welch, AgriLife Extension economist-grain marketing, College Station.
– Wheat Insect Management/Insects and Mites Role in Diseases, Dr. Ed Bynum, AgriLife Extension entomologist, Amarillo.
– Variety Selection/Farmer-Saved Seed, Dr. Jourdan Bell, AgriLife Extension agronomist, Amarillo.
– Update from Texas Wheat Producers, Darby Sullivan, director of communications and producer relations, Amarillo.
