SEGUIN — The Geronimo and Alligator Creeks Watershed Partnership will host a Homeowner Maintenance of Septic Systems Course from 8:30 a.m.-4 p.m. Sept. 18.
The class is free and will be held at the Guadalupe County AgriLife Extension office, 210 E. Live Oak St. in Seguin.
The course is an in-depth program on aerobic septic systems and provides certification to homeowners to maintain their aerobic systems.
“The program will provide a comprehensive understanding of the operational and maintenance activities as well as the reporting requirements of aerobic septic systems,” said Ward Ling, Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service watershed coordinator for Geronimo and Alligator Creeks.
“In Guadalupe County, homeowners with aerobic systems are required to have a maintenance contract with a licensed service provider or be certified to maintain their system,” he noted. “Guadalupe County Environmental Health accepts this class as a means of certifying homeowners to maintain and do the required quarterly maintenance checks and reporting to the County.”
Ling said attendees will receive the necessary training and reporting forms to submit to the county environmental health department.
There will be instruction on treatment processes, health and safety considerations, how to inspect and maintain the system, and how activities in the home can impact the system.
“The course provides answers to some of the most frequently asked questions, including when to pump out a tank, and what can and cannot go down the drain,” Ling said.
Seating is limited, so registration is required to reserve a seat. To register, contact Ling at 979-845-6980 or wling@tamu.edu.
