The Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service will be holding a workshop for students, Building Wealth on a Ramen Noodle Budget, on Oct. 17 at Howard Payne University, 1000 Fisk St. in Brownwood. This talk is part of the HPU Student Government Association’s Buzz Talk series.
The free event will run from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at the Winebrenner Memorial Hall of Science, Room 123. There will be refreshments and over $3,000 worth of door prizes. The event is presented by the AgriLife Extension offices of Brown, San Saba, Coleman, Burnet and McCulloch counties.
“According to the College Board, the average student loan debt for a 2017 graduate of a private university was $32,600,” said Courtney Parrott, AgriLife Extension agent for community and family health in Brown County. “This does not include credit card or car debt. By the time students graduate, they can already be several years in debt before even beginning their adult lives.”
Building Wealth on a Ramen Noodle Budget will teach about saving, spending and credit management. Parrott said the goal is to teach young people about money management so they will not graduate loaded down with credit card and student loan debt.
Register by Oct. 7 to Parrott at courtney.parrott@ag.tamu.edu or 325-646-0386 to earn an extra door prize ticket. Local businesses that have donated gift cards include Walmart, D2 Escape and Taco Casa. Parrott said her goal was for every participant to leave with a prize.
