The Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service will hold a Prescribed Burn Field Day on June 11 in the Concho Valley/Mertzon area. The event qualifies for the required in-person prescribed burn field day for the Texas Department of Agriculture Certified and Insured Prescribed Burn Manager license program.
The cost is $100, and advanced registration is required at http://bit.ly/FireFieldDay. The exact start time and location will depend on weather and other factors and will be announced prior to the event to registered participants.
The field day will also offer three continuing fire training credits for licensed certified and insured prescribed burn managers, CIPBM. After the fire, a TDA CIPBM exam will be available to participants who have already completed the AgriLife Extension online Prescribed Burn School course.
Hands-on fire experience
The field day is open to anyone who would like to gain more hands-on experience with prescribed fires. Lunch will be provided.
“We are excited to get back into face-to-face programming with a hands-on prescribed burn field day,” said Morgan Treadwell, Ph.D., AgriLife Extension range specialist, San Angelo. “Participants will experience ignitions, holding, weather measurements and communications on a 20-acre prescribed fire.”
All prescribed fire tactics will be taught by the Texas Department of Agriculture lead burn instructors who have over 35-years of combined burn experience across Texas, New Mexico, Utah, Montana, Georgia and Oklahoma.
“This field day will give all participants the opportunity to experience every aspect of prescribed fire, including the after-action review to assess goals and objectives of the fire,” Treadwell said.
