The Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service in Travis County will continue its 2022 horticultural education series with the webinar “Water Conservation for Austin Home Landscapes, Today and Tomorrow.”

The free virtual program will be presented on the Zoom format from 10 a.m. to noon June 8, and interested parties can register at https://tx.ag/WCAustinReg.
About the webinar
Kevin Kluge, water conservation manager at Austin Water, will be the webinar presenter. Kluge oversees a range of water conservation programs, including incentives, irrigation evaluations, commercial efficiency assessments and water waste enforcement. He also has 20 years of experience with the Texas Water Development Board and is a member of the American Institute of Certified Planners.
“Austin Water has a wide range of programs to help residential customers save water, particularly in their outdoor landscapes,” said Daphne Richards, AgriLife Extension horticulturist for Travis County.
She said the infomration will be particularly useful as weather models forecast this summer to be extra hot and dry.
Kluge will discuss various ways in which homeowners can save water this summer and tap into rebate programs.
Due to technological constraints, this webinar and others in the series have a limit of 100 attendees, but an unlimited number of people can register to view the recorded webinars.
“Those who register but are not among the first 100 attendees or who miss the webinar for any reason will be able to view it later,” Richards said.
Once registered, participants will be provided a link for the live session or to view a recording of the program.
Participants may submit questions during the webinar and get answers live as time allows. Those submitting questions that are not addressed during the webinar will receive emailed answers. Viewers of the recorded sessions can send their questions to the Travis County Master Gardeners help desk at https://travismg@ag.tamu.edu.
About this series, other programming
“Waterwise Strategies for Austin Gardens” is the theme for the 2022 educational series. The final topic in August will be on permaculture strategies for water conservation. All programs are presented by experts from AgriLife Extension, Travis County Master Gardeners and Austin Water. Past webinars can be found here.
“The AgriLife Extension horticulture program in Travis County provides free or low-cost public programs on gardening and food preservation topics throughout the year,” Richards said. “These interactive programs help the public get more joy and productivity from their gardens, troubleshoot problems and develop environmentally sensitive gardening techniques.”
She said many of the programs also offer continuing education units for those holding Texas Department of Agriculture pesticide applicator licenses and Texas Nursery and Landscape Association membership. Contact Richards at daphne.richards@ag.tamu.edu for more information on professional CEUs.
