The Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service will hold the East Side Turn Row meeting on June 10 in Asa and a West Side Turn Row meeting June 17 in Crawford.
The event is hosted by the AgriLife Extension office in McLennan County along with multiple AgriLife Extension county committees.
The event is free, but registration is requested by June 7 for the Asa event and June 15 for Crawford to the AgriLife Extension office in McLennan County at 254-757-5180 or by emailing candace.chapman@ag.tamu.edu.
Onsite registration will begin at 8 a.m. for both meetings. Breakfast will be served during the meeting, and the event will conclude around 10:35 a.m.
The June 10 event will be held off Crunk Road, near Asa, in a little grassy spot right off the road.
On June 17, the West Side Turn Row meeting will be held off Farmview Parkway in Crawford.
One Texas Department of Agriculture continuing education unit in integrated pest management and 2.5 certified crop adviser credits will be offered at each meeting
“The Turn Row meetings will provide a timely update on crop potential for this year,” said Shane McLellan, Ph.D., AgriLife Extension agriculture and natural resources agent for McLennan County. “Our 2022 crops have been on a roller coaster of dry and hot wind and are finally getting rain.”
East Side crop topics, speakers
McLellan said speakers will discuss insect and disease threats as well as provide important information on the current ag commodities, especially cotton. The topics and speakers are as follows:
— Update on the current growing season with a focus on corn, grain sorghum and cotton — Ronald Schnell, Ph.D., AgriLife Extension state cropping systems specialist, Bryan-College Station.
— Current field conditions pertaining to scouting reports on insect and disease — Tyler Mays, AgriLife Extension integrated pest management agent for Hill and McLennan counties.
— Cotton and Feed Grain Market Update — John Robinson, Ph.D., AgriLife Extension cotton market economist, Bryan-College Station.
West Side crop topics, speakers
— Update on the current growing season with a focus on corn, grain sorghum and cotton — Schnell.
— Current scouting report on crops pertaining to insect and disease — Mark Nemec, MJN Consulting, Woodway.
— Ag commodity market updates — Jason Johnson, Ph.D., AgriLife Extension economist, Stephenville.
