A Prescribed Fire Field Day will be held July 22 in the Concho Valley. The Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service event is open to anyone seeking hands-on experience with prescribed fire by participating in fire ignitions, weather measurements and holding suppression support.
The event will start at 8 a.m. Cost is $100, and preregistration is required at https://tx.ag/FireFieldDay22.
The event will be in the San Angelo area and additional details will be provided upon registering. Lunch will be provided.
“Our fire field day will not only fulfill the required field component, exam and offer continuing fire training credits from Texas Department of Agriculture, but also serves as a safe and effective training grounds to execute very basic fire ignition sequences,” said Morgan Treadwell, Ph.D., AgriLife Extension range specialist, San Angelo, and event instructor.
“If you are a county official, volunteer fire department member or a landowner interested in using fire to fight fire – this training is for you,” she said.
Each participant will experience every role as a trainee on a prescribed fire including suppression, holding, ignition, weather and burn boss, Treadwell said.
Continuing education credits, exam
The event qualifies for the in-person prescribed burn field day requirement for the Texas Department of Agriculture certified and insured prescribed burn manager, CIPBM, license program.
Six continuing education fire training credits are available to licensed CIPBMs.
A TDA CIPBM exam will also be offered to all participants who have already completed the Prescribed Burn School course.
