The 2022 Texas Broiler Symposium will be held at the Nacogdoches Civic Center Sept. 27-28.
The Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service-sponsored program will be held from 9 a.m. to 5:15 p.m. Sept. 28 at 3805 NW Stallings Drive in Nacogdoches.

Audrey McElroy, Ph.D., Texas A&M Department of Poultry Science head, said the annual symposium is a great opportunity for producers and industry professionals to meet, network and learn the latest in poultry science from knowledgeable experts.
“I look forward to welcoming our industry and government attendees to this year’s event,” she said. “It’s important for us to get together and hear from topic experts and discuss some of the latest developments in poultry science and production.”
On the agenda
A golf outing is being planned for Sept. 27, and more information will be available post-registration. The symposium will begin with a 6 p.m. social and catfish dinner.
On Sept. 28, the event will begin at 8:30 a.m. with a Texas Allied Poultry Association meeting followed by general sessions. Speakers will address a number of topics, including:
- Controller Management from A to Z, Scott Black, broiler specialist, Cobb-Vantress.
- Biosecurity and Artificial Insemination Testing Requirements, Travis Cigainero, DVM, Ceva.
- Basic Nutrition and Understanding Feed Supplements, Jason Lee, Ph.D., CJ Bio.
- Current Pest Problems, Maxcy Nolan, Ph.D., Nipcam.
The morning program will be followed by concurrent afternoon sessions covering topics related to broilers and breeder and hatchery operations. The topics and speakers regarding broilers include:
- Brooding Management, David Swysgood, Aviagen.
- Water Systems and Water Quality, Taylor Davis, Aquapproach.
- Optimizing Broiler Flock Uniformity and Livability, Andrew Bourne, Cobb-Vantress.
- Litter Management, Joseph Payne, Ph.D., technical services director, Poultry Guard.
Topics and speakers for breeder and hatchery sessions, include:
- Managing a Hatch Window, Scott Jordan, Cobb-Vantress.
- Hatchery Disinfection, Scott McKenzie, Ph.D., vice president of technical services, EnviroTech Chemical Services.
- Male Management, Swysgood.
- Reovirus Update, Cigainero.
Vendors will showcase a range of products and technology related to poultry production.
