The Parmer County Cotton Conference will be held by the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service on Feb. 9 in Bovina.
Onsite registration will begin at 8 a.m. followed by the program at 8:30 a.m. The conference will take place at the XIT Recreation Center, 215 North St. The day will conclude with an auxin training.
The cost is $25, and participants must RSVP by Feb. 3 to the AgriLife Extension office in Parmer County at 806-251-5120. Lunch will be provided.
Texas Department of Agriculture continuing education units will be available, but the type and quantity are pending, said Janelle Duffey, AgriLife Extension agriculture and natural resources agent for Parmer County.
Parmer County Cotton Conference topics and speakers
The scheduled topics and speakers for the cotton conference are as follows:
- Integrated pest management report for 2022 and the outlook for 2023, John Thobe, AgriLife Extension integrated pest management agent for Bailey, Castro and Parmer counties.
- Economic strategies and what markets are looking like in 2023, Justin Benavidez, Ph.D., AgriLife Extension economist, Amarillo.
- Operation diversification for when crops fail and prices drop, and a discussion on incorporating dorper sheep, Kelly Kettner, Kettner Farms, Muleshoe.
- Irrigation and the economics of drip irrigation and how it can save in the long run, especially when water is in short supply, representative from the U.S. Department of Agriculture Farm Services Agency.
