The Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service will offer the award-winning Rancher’s Leasing Workshop program Feb. 27 in Waco. The program will also be held May 9 in Boerne and Sept. 13 in Decatur.
This half-day program is designed for agricultural landowners and tenants. It is focused specifically on grazing, hunting and livestock leases.
The Waco event will be from 9 a.m.-1:30 p.m. at theMcLennan Community College Emergency Services Education Center-Lecture Hall, 7601 Steinbeck Bend Drive.
In Boerne, the workshop will be from 10 a.m.-2:30 p.m. at the Patrick Heath Public Library, 541 N. Main St.
The Decatur event will be from 9 a.m.-1:30 p.m. at the Decatur Conference Center-Chisholm Trail Room, 2010 U.S. Highway 380.
Participants for all events should plan to arrive 30 minutes before the start of the program to check-in.
The cost is $50 and preregistration is required at https://tx.ag/rlw23. All participants will receive their own copy of the Ranchers’ Agricultural Leasing Handbook, which contains checklists and sample lease language.
Two Texas Real Estate Commission continuing education units are available for course number 43243 Landowner Liability – Laws and Steps to Protection.
Speakers are Tiffany Lashmet, J.D., AgriLife Extension agriculture law specialist, Amarillo, and Greg Kaase, Ph.D., AgriLife Extension agricultural economist and risk management specialist, Bryan-College Station.
“Dr. Kaase and I not only provide legal and economic information, but we have a firsthand understanding since both have been involved in various grazing and hunting leases ourselves,” said Lashmet. “We also share practical advice and stories that I think really add to the workshops.”

Program focus, topics
The presenters encourage audience questions and interactions and there will be time for discussions. Topics covered will include:
- Grazing, hunting and livestock leases.
- Landowner liability law, and how landowners and tenants can protect themselves in the event someone is injured on property they own or control.
- Economic resources.
- Budgets.
- Decision tools.
