Organic farmers to share info with beginning farmers, home gardeners
SEGUIN — Home gardeners and beginning farmers who want to learn techniques for organic and sustainable production are encouraged to attend a workshop Aug. 11 at the Holiday Inn Express, 2801 Jay Road, Seguin.
The event will be from 8:30 a.m.-3 p.m. The $95 per person registration fee includes lunch. Reservations should be emailed to [email protected].
“This event will give participants the chance to be trained by professional horticulturists and commercial organic and sustainable growers,” said Dr. Joe Masabni, Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service horticulturist, who is organizing the day with My Father’s Farm in Seguin and Home Sweet Farm in Brenham.
The workshop includes a tour of greenhouses and fields at a commercial organic farm plus presentations on soil preparation, crop rotation, pest and fungal control, seed varieties and sources, cover crops, fertilizers, composting and water usage.
