LUBBOCK – The Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service named Alex Nelson as the new regional information technology specialist at Lubbock effective March 21.

Nelson is responsible for coordinating all information technology endeavors across the 63 counties comprising AgriLife Extension’s North Region, said Dr. Jim Segers, AgriLife Extension information technology coordinator at College Station.

Nelson is headquartered at the Texas A&M AgriLife Research and Extension Center, 1102 E. Farm-to-Market Road 1294.

“We are excited to have Alex in place to oversee our information technology efforts across the Texas Panhandle,” Segers said. “He has a rich and varied background, which includes both IT and electronic mass communications. I think he will prove to be a real asset not only to the region, but to our agency as a whole.”

Nelson earned a bachelor’s in mass communications, television and film from Southeast Missouri State University and a master’s in mass communications from Arkansas State University.

His background information said he previously worked as a replay technician with Arkansas State University athletics and served as a graduate assistant at the university where he taught students to operate media equipment, software and production equipment.

He has also worked as a substitute teacher at all grade levels and completed an internship in the sports department at KFVS12 TV, Cape Girardeau, Missouri.

Nelson fills the position previously held by Steve Paz, who transferred to Ector County in January as the AgriLife Extension agent for agriculture and natural resources.
