The online course will run from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., and the cost is $35 per person. Online registration is available at https://tx.ag/OvertonPesticide. The deadline to register is Nov. 18 at 4 p.m.

About the course

Participants will receive five Texas Department of Agriculture pesticide continuing education units — one laws and regulations, two on integrated pest management, and two general. 

Topics offered include:

Morning session — 8:30-11:30 a.m.

  • Ticks — livestock disease and control considerations — John Currin, DVM, clinical associate professor, production management medicine/food animal, Virginia-Maryland College of Veterinary Medicine. 
  • Laws and regulations of pesticide use — Katherine Newton, pesticide inspector, Texas Department of Agriculture, Fort Worth.
  • Chemicals and hormones: They are everywhere — Jason Banta, Ph.D., AgriLife Extension beef cattle specialist and professor, Texas A&M Department of Animal Science, Overton. 

Afternoon session — 1-3 p.m.

  • An integrated approach to ant management in Texas — Jacob Wightman, AgriLife Extension agricultural and environmental safety program specialist, Agricultural and Environmental Safety Unit, Bryan-College Station. 
  • Weed control is pastures and hay meadows — Vanessa Corriher-Olson, Ph.D., AgriLife Extension forage specialist and professor, Department of Soil and Crop Sciences, Overton.
