The Bennett Trust Land Stewardship Conference is scheduled for April 9-10 at the YO Ranch, 2033 Sidney Baker St., Kerrville.

The Bennett Trust was established through an endowment provided by Eskel and Ruth Bennett to the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service through the Texas A&M Department of Soil and Crop Sciences.

Register online at tx.ag/BennettTrust26; the cost is $125. The deadline to register is April 3.

“Whether you’re a new landowner or a multi-generational rancher, the Bennett Land Stewardship Program delivers tools and knowledge to help you sustainably manage and preserve the unique natural resources of the Edwards Plateau,” said Larry Redmon, Ph.D., AgriLife Extension program leader and associate department head in the Department of Soil and Crop Sciences.

Three general Texas Department of Agriculture continuing education units will be offered. 

On the agenda

Topics and speakers on April 9 include:

  • Disaster Assessment and Recovery, DAR — Kevin Knapick, AgriLife Extension Disaster Assessment and Recovery specialist, Fredericksburg.
  • Geology and Hydrology of the Edwards Plateau — Robert Mace, executive director, The Meadows Center for Water and the Environment, San Marcos.
  • The Texas Well Owner Network, TWON — Joel Pigg, AgriLife Extension program specialist and TWON coordinator, Department of Soil and Crop Sciences, Bryan-College Station.
  • Ag Laws for Texas Landowners — Tiffany Lashmet, J.D., AgriLife Extension agricultural law specialist and professor, Department of Agricultural Economics, Canyon.
  • On-site Sewage Systems, or OSSFs — Anish Jantrania, Ph.D., AgriLife Extension specialist and professor in the Department of Biological and Agricultural Engineering, Temple.
  • Rainwater Harvesting — Billy Kniffen, retired AgriLife Extension water resource associate, Menard.
  • Fireproofing the Ranch — Morgan Treadwell, Ph.D., AgriLife Extension range specialist and professor, Department of Rangeland, Wildlife and Fisheries Management, San Angelo.

On April 10, there will be a day-long field trip to the Hillingdon Ranch near Comfort.
