Brazos County Farm and Ranch Seminar set for Sept. 25 in Bryan
AgriLife Extension event to cover invasive pest and weed updates, control methods
The Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service will host the Brazos County Farm and Ranch Seminar on Sept. 25 in Bryan.
The event will be from 8 a.m. until 2 p.m. at the AgriLife Extension office for Brazos County, 4153 County Park Court, and is open to the public. Registration will begin at 7:30 a.m.
The registration fee is $50 before Sept. 18, and $60 after. There will be door prizes for attendees. Coffee and lunch are included.

Participants can also earn five Texas Department of Agriculture pesticide applicator license continuing education units: three general, one in integrated pest management, and one in laws and regulations.
About the event
The seminar will address timely management topics for land and livestock owners.
Topics and speakers include:
- New World screwworm – Sonja Swiger, Ph.D., AgriLife Extension entomologist at the Texas A&M AgriLife Research and Extension Center at Stephenville and professor in the Texas A&M Department of Entomology.
- Pasture mealybug – Tyler Mays, AgriLife Extension integrated pest management specialist, Hillsboro.
- Prescribed fire for weed control – Matthew March, AgriLife Extension agriculture and natural resources agent, Waller County.
- Macartney rose, yaupon, dewberries and other resilient weeds – Zach Howard, Ph.D., AgriLife Extension program specialist, Department of Soil and Crop Sciences, Bryan-College Station.
- Pesticide laws and regulations – Jacob Wightman, AgriLife Extension agricultural and environmental safety program specialist in the Agricultural and Environmental Safety Unit, Bryan-College Station.
Vendors will also be at the event to share services available to area producers.
