‘Building Strong Communities: A Panel Discussion’ webinar set for Aug. 26
Free OneOp session explores policy awareness, leveraging local systems to support military families
The Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service and OneOp will host the webinar, “Building Strong Communities: A Panel Discussion,” on Aug. 26.

The free webinar will be from 10-11:30 a.m. through OneOp, a virtual platform for professionals who serve military families.
Participants can register at tx.ag/BuildingStrongCommunities. Once registered, participants will receive a confirmation email with detailed information about the event.

About the webinar
This session will examine how policy awareness, local systems and shared community responsibility can work together to create stronger, more sustainable support for military families.
Panelists include Sarah Stein, director, Defense-State Liaison Office; retired Col. Tim Farrell, U.S. Air Force, vice president of military affairs, aerospace and cybersecurity, Greater San Antonio Chamber of Commerce; Emily Becher, Ph.D., vice president of applied research and evaluation, Blue Star Families; and Andy Crocker, Ph.D., AgriLife Extension gerontology and health specialist and associate professor, Family and Community Health unit, Canyon.
Throughout the webinar, panelists will:
- Identify how shared responsibility is reflected in Department of War policies and directives.
- Explain the functional role of defense-state liaison officers and provide illustrations of major policy areas of concern and effort.
- Describe how state-level policy development strengthens community infrastructure.
- Assess community infrastructure capacity across geographic contexts.
- Leverage state-level, regional and community partnerships to strengthen local systems.
- Guide on increasing community capacity of military service organizations.
