Central Texas Turf and Pest Management Workshop set for Sept. 8 in Hewitt
AgriLife Extension seminar offers continuing education units for pesticide applicators
The Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service office in McLennan County and VirKim Fertilizer and Chemical will host the Central Texas Turf and Pest Management Workshop on Sept. 8 from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Hewitt Veterans of Foreign Wars Hall, 725 Sun Valley Blvd., Hewitt.
Early registration before Sept. 1 is $80. Day-of registration is $90 at the door, cash or check only. To register, call VirKim Inc. at 254-420-2456. Sign-in begins at 7:30 a.m., and lunch is included with registration.

Participants can earn up to five Texas Department of Agriculture pesticide applicator continuing education units, CEUs, in either structural or agricultural categories. Structural license holders will receive 3 CEU hours, including one credit hour each in General Integrated Pest Management, General Laws and Regulations, and Lawn and Ornamental. In addition, they may choose between Termite or Weed for one credit hour and between Pest or General Integrated Pest Management for one credit hour, for a total of 5 CEU hours. Attendees should bring their applicator license to the event.

- Mosquitoes, flies, rodents and associated diseases – Hurley.
- Turfgrass entomology in Central Texas – Brooks.
- General laws and regulations – Brandi Kelm, inspector, Texas Department of Agriculture, Austin.
- Ornamental and turf pest management – Jacob Wightman, AgriLife Extension agricultural and environmental safety program specialist in the Agricultural and Environmental Safety Unit, Bryan-College Station.
