The Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service will host its annual Comanche County continuing education unit, CEU, conference on Feb. 26 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. in Comanche.

The cost of the conference, which includes lunch, is $50. To preregister, call the AgriLife Extension office for Comanche County at 325-356-2539. On-site registration starts at 8:30 a.m. The event will be held at the Comanche Community Center, 101 Indian Creek Drive. 

Five Texas Department of Agriculture CEUs — three integrated pest management and two laws and regulations — will be available. 

Topics and speakers 

The conference will feature the following topics and speakers: 

  • Auxin training — Scott Nolte, Ph.D., AgriLife Extension weed specialist and professor, Department of Soil and Crop Sciences, Bryan-College Station.
  • Corn crop scouting fundamentals — Tyler Mays, AgriLife Extension integrated pest management agent, Department of Entomology, Hillsboro. 
  • Corn ear diseases and nematodes — Thomas Isakeit, Ph.D., AgriLife Extension plant pathologist and professor, Department of Plant Pathology and Microbiology, Bryan-College Station. 
  • Weed management in corn and sorghum — Ronnie Schnell, Ph.D., AgriLife Extension state cropping system specialist and professor, Department of Soil and Crop Sciences, Bryan-College Station. 
  • Texas Department of Agriculture laws and regulations — Jason Jones, inspector, Texas Department of Agriculture.
