Homestead Conference set for May 2 in Archer City
AgriLife Extension event to feature hands-on sessions in beekeeping, food preservation, soap making
The Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service in Archer County will host its first Homestead Conference on May 2 in Archer City.

The daylong event will run from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the AgriLife Extension office for Archer County, 512 W. Cottonwood St. The registration fee is $50. Registration is available online at tx.ag/TheHomesteadConference.
The sessions are designed for anyone interested in self-sufficiency, traditional crafts or simply learning something new. The conference will be led by experienced instructors covering skills that once formed the backbone of rural living.
Morning sessions
Registration and welcome begin at 9 a.m., followed by concurrent breakout sessions throughout the morning.
Sessions from 9:15-11 a.m. include:
- Silent Livestock: Vermicomposting for the Busy Homesteader.
- Seasoned Success: Growing, Preserving and Blending Your Own Herbs.
- Stirring Up Suds with White Tail Soap Co.
- From Egg to Coop: Building a Healthy Backyard Flock.
- Yes, You Can! Water Bath Canning Basics.
- Restitch and Reimagine: The Upcycled Textiles Workshop.
Lunch will be held at noon.
Afternoon sessions
Sessions from 1-3 p.m. include:
- Bloom in a Bucket.
- Healthy Home in Your Hands.
- Freshly Milled: From Grain to Loaf.
- Beekeeping Basics: Bringing Bees into a Working Homestead.
Youth involvement activities are scheduled for 3 p.m., followed by a wrap-up and surveys at 3:30 p.m.
