The event offers five continuing education units for current Texas Department of Agriculture pesticide license holders — three general, one integrated pest management, and one laws and regulations.

Workshop to cover key pond management topics

Educational presentations will be delivered by Todd Sink, Ph.D., AgriLife Extension aquaculture specialist and professor in the Texas A&M Department of Rangeland, Wildlife and Fisheries Management, and Brittany Chesser, AgriLife Extension aquatic vegetation program specialist and lead diagnostic scientist at the Texas A&M AgriLife Aquatic Diagnostics Laboratory. Both Sink and Chesser are located in Bryan-College Station.

Chesser said the materials covered during the workshop apply to private pond owners and managers, as well as anyone interested in learning more about pond management.

Specific topics include:

  • Identifying aquatic vegetation.
  • Using herbivorous fish for aquatic vegetation control.
  • Strategies and regulations related to aquatic vegetation management.
  • Fish stocking and management strategies.

Chesser said the event will also showcase pond management equipment and provide time to answer specific participant questions.

Event sponsors include Pristine Pond Solutions, Texas Fishing LLC and Natural Waterscapes.
