Aug. 19 webinar to explore childcare barriers affecting military spouse employment
AgriLife Extension promotes OneOp webinar offering practical strategies, current research
Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service encourages professionals who work with military-connected families to attend “Navigating Child Care Barriers and Their Effect on Military Spouse Employment,” a free webinar at 11:30 a.m. Aug. 19.
Hosted through OneOp, the 90-minute multidisciplinary webinar will examine how limited access to affordable, reliable and high-quality childcare affects military spouse employment and overall family readiness. The session is designed for professionals in military support, education, child development, workforce development, healthcare and community organizations.
The webinar is free to attend, but advance registration is required.

Webinar topics and continuing education
Participants will learn about:
- Childcare provider shortages and their impact on military families.
- Rising childcare costs and workforce instability.
- Current research on childcare access and military spouse employment.
- Practical strategies and real-world case studies to better support military-connected families.
- Cross-sector solutions that improve childcare access and workforce participation.
Presenters will include:
- Walter Gilliam, Ph.D., executive director of the Buffett Early Childhood Institute at the University of Nebraska and holds the Richard D. Holland Presidential Chair in Early Childhood Development.
- Molly Hill, program analyst for the Department of War within the Office of Military Community and Family Policy’s Child and Youth Programs division.
- Mujaahida Latif, program analyst for the Department of the Navy within the Joint Services Operations Division.
- Eric Hale, director of business partnerships and strategy for Early Matters Texas.
