Strategies for nutrient management in ponds

Brittany Chesser, AgriLife Extension aquatic vegetation management program specialist and lead diagnostic scientist in the Aquatic Diagnostics Laboratory, Bryan-College Station, will be the featured speaker.

“Excess nutrients in ponds often lead to excessive aquatic vegetation issues, including algae blooms, which can require labor-intensive and costly management practices,” Chesser said. “This webinar will provide practical solutions to help pond owners and managers address these nutrient management challenges effectively and efficiently.”

Topics covered include:

  • Recognizing sources of nutrient pollution.
  • Identifying nutrient-related problems in a pond.
  • Implementing strategies for overall nutrient reduction, including aeration, beneficial bacteria blends, nutrient binders, nutrient buffers and more.

Chesser said the tools and information covered apply to recreational and farm ponds to enhance water quality and achieve pond management goals.

A 30-minute question-and-answer session will follow the presentation, allowing participants to receive guidance on specific issues.
