Oak Wilt and Tree Care Program set for Aug. 21 in Fredericksburg
Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service experts to share latest oak wilt management, shade tree care tips
Landowners, homeowners, arborists and tree enthusiasts are invited to attend the Oak Wilt and Tree Care Program hosted by the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service on Aug. 21 in Fredericksburg.
The event will be from 9:30-11:30 a.m. at the AgriLife Extension office for Gillespie County, 38 Business Court, Fredericksburg.
Registration is $15 per person. Participants may preregister or get more information by calling the AgriLife Extension office for Gillespie County at 830-997-3452 or by visiting the online registration site. Walk-in registrations will also be accepted, and a small service fee applies to credit card payments.
On the agenda
- Demian Gomez, Ph.D,, regional forest health coordinator, Texas A&M Forest Service, will cover oak wilt identification, treatment options and the latest developments in managing one of Texas’ most destructive tree diseases.
- Beth McMahon, AgriLife Extension horticulture agent, Gillespie County, will share best practices for shade tree care and selection to help participants maintain healthy, resilient landscapes.
Attendees will receive practical, research-based information they can apply to protect valuable trees from oak wilt and improve the long-term health of shade trees in home landscapes and on rural properties. The program also offers one general pesticide applicator continuing education unit, CEU, for licensed applicators.
