The Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service will host the Pineywoods Cattle Congress Field Day on May 15 at Baker Ranch, 610 County Road 152, Carthage.

The event is hosted by the AgriLife Extension offices serving Angelina, Nacogdoches, Panola, San Augustine, Sabine and Shelby counties.

The hands-on educational program is designed to provide livestock producers and landowners with practical strategies to improve forage production, grazing management and overall cattle performance. The program will feature a combination of classroom instruction and field demonstrations led by AgriLife Extension specialists and industry professionals.

Registration begins at 8:30 a.m., with the program starting at 9 a.m. Lunch will be held from noon to 1 p.m.

The registration fee is $20 and includes educational materials and lunch. Attendees must register by May 8 by contacting the AgriLife Extension office at Panola County at 903-693-0380 or email AgriLife Extension agent Lee Dudley at [email protected].

Three Texas Department of Agriculture continuing education units will be available — two in integrated pest management and one general.

Wrap-up and evaluations will be held at 2 p.m.

  • Grass to Gain: Forage Decisions That Drive Cow Performance and Calf Pounds — Jason Banta, Ph.D., AgriLife Extension beef cattle specialist and professor, Department of Animal Science, Overton.
