The Texas Well Owner Network, TWON, is hosting a free water screening event for residents with private water wells impacted by flood waters during July rainfall events. Water samples can be dropped off at multiple locations on Aug. 12, with a results meeting on Aug. 13 in Comfort.

Water samples will be screened for total coliform bacteria and E. coli bacteria.

Joel Pigg, Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service program specialist and TWON coordinator, Bryan-College Station, said the Texas Well Owner Network program is for Texas residents who depend on household wells for their water needs.

Water samples can be dropped off at the following locations on Aug. 12 from 8:30 a.m. to noon: 

The follow-up meeting to explain screening results will be on Aug. 13 at 10 a.m. at the Comfort Public Library, 701 High St., Comfort. 

Sampling instructions

Those submitting samples are asked to follow the water sample instructions available at twon.tamu.edu. A water sample form must be completed for each sample.

The screenings are presented by AgriLife Extension and Texas Water Resources Institute, TWRI, in partnership with the AgriLife Extension offices for Gillespie County and Kendall County.

Funding for TWON is through a Clean Water Act nonpoint source grant provided by the Texas State Soil and Water Conservation Board and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. The project is managed by TWRI, a unit of Texas A&M AgriLife Research that combines expertise across The Texas A&M University System.
